Montezuma Road will be closed from College Avenue to El CajonBoulevard between 11:30 a.m. and 1 :30 p.m. Oct. 10 to make way for aparade.
For the first time in 30 years, the College Area CommunityCouncil, along with the Montezuma Economic Development Corporation,is preparing to bring the community together with a parade on Oct.10.
"The one thing I like about this community is that it's diverse,"said parade chairwoman Charlene Larson. "Why not bring attention tothe community and these people out?"
The parade will pay tribute to the time when the community used tohave a parade in the '50s and '60s with a "Back to the Future" theme, said Rich Earle, CACC publicist.
So far the community's response to the parade has been positive,Larson said.
"An old woman told me that it's a good thing that we're bringingback the parade," Larson said. "This is a great excuse to have aparty."
A variety of entries--from one-man kazoo bands to an extravagantmarching band--will be accepted. Larson said she expects at least 25participants in the parade.
Car buffs have something to look forward to in the parade. Amongthe entries expected to participate are some classic and vintageautomobiles--such as T-Birds, Austin Healeys and even a 1901 vintagecar.
According to parade coordinator Jenny Meegan, prizes are going tobe given away for the most creative entry.
The prize is a motivation for people to participate in the parade,Meegan said.
"I'm hoping this year would be successful so that next year itwill be even bigger," Meegan said.
The parade will start at noon and last for about an hour and ahalf.
The one-mile parade route will begin in the parking lot justbehind Rubio's and Jack-in-the-Box, then run eastward on MontezumaRoad to the new location of the College/Rolando Library, thendisperse behind the library site on Mohawk Street.
There will be a festival at the end of the parade to bringattention to the new library with food and charity booths.
"A lot of people don't know about the new library," said CACCpresident Sandra Buehner.
There are funds to build the library, but none for books, shelvesand other things that need funding, Buehner said.
"I hoping this parade will bring about community awareness and asense of community," Larson said
