As the fall semester came to an end, individuals and chapters within the Greek community were awarded for their accomplishments throughout the season at Unity Night Monday in Montezuma Hall.
Doug Case, coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life, said that George Biagi, deputy press secretary for San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, recognized all the chapters who helped during the fire catastrophe.
The intramural award was given to Gamma Phi Beta. Political science junior Joey Draeger, sports director for the Panhellenic Council, said it was a successful intramural season.
"It came down to Delta Gamma and Gamma Phi and it was a well-matched game," Draeger said. "I was proud to award first place to them and I look forward to seeing the tense games next semester because it always gets more intense."
Delta Gamma, Lambda Chi Alpha and Nu Alpha Kappa were awarded the Chapter Enrichment Awards as the chapters that made the most improvement.
Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Phi, Alpha Pi Sigma, Lambda Theta Alpha, Nu Alpha Kappa and Upsilon Kappa Delta, the Silver laurel chapters of SDSU, were commemorated as well.
Academically, the chapters with the highest grade point averages were Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Pi Sigma and Kappa Alpha Psi.
Psychology junior D.J. Sheehan of Sigma Phi Epsilon said it was a great accomplishment for their house and showed what it house stands for.
"We adhere to the codes of conduct of our house and every year we raise the standard for ourselves and everyone else on campus," Sheehan said.
Individuals in the Greek community were honored for their cumulative GPA. Jonathan Tucker of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Lauren Stevenson of Gamma Phi Beta, Deneice Chideme of Sigma Lambda Gamma and LaKeisha Nacoste of Zeta Phi Beta held the highest grades this semester.
Stevenson, a liberal studies sophomore, said she and the other recipients deserved the awards.
"I have always possessed good time management skills going to school and being active in Gamma Phi," Stevenson said. "I worked hard to disprove the stereotype of the typical sorority girl."
